In a continued effort to support the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and in accordance with the directives of DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Hong Kong has successfully provided medical assistance to 118 OFW-beneficiaries since August 2023 to May 2025 with a total amount of PHP8.85 Million through the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund.
These OFW-beneficiaries were diagnosed with severe illnesses such as breast, cervical, and ovarian cancer to name a few have received PhP75,000.00 or its Hong Kong currency equivalent to each of these OFWs. The medical assistance provided is to help cover their medical expenses / treatments / hospital costs.
“The health and well-being of OFWs is one of the priorities of MWO Hong Kong. This assistance offers relief albeit temporarily to those struggling with medical expenses, reinforcing the Philippine government’s dedication to supporting Filipino workers abroad,” OIC Labor Attaché Antonio R. Villafuerte stated.
Medical assistance is just one of the assistances provided to distressed OFWs under the AKSYON Fund. Other forms of assistance include legal, financial, repatriation, shipment of remains, and any other analogous intervention to protect the rights and promote the welfare of Filipino migrant workers.
